 - Paraphrase the Issue
The first thing you need to do is paraphrase the issue that the
question is focusing on. Use synonyms, turns of phrase, and colocations to
do this. Here is a good example of how you can change the sentence
without losing its meaning and show the examiner that you have an
excellent command of English:
Original sentence(s):
According to some people, students from all economic backgrounds
should be able to attend university. They believe that the government
should provide free university education for everyone.
Paraphrased Version:
The question of whether or not the government should consider
making tertiary education freely available to all learners has been the
subject of recent/heated public discussion/debate.
What exactly have we changed?
“university education”
“tertiary education.” These are essentially the same thing.
