How to Evaluate Your IELTS Writing
The following table gives you a glimpse of what examiners are
asking themselves when they read your writing test and decide on your
score.

Produce a lot of error-free sentences.
Use a variety of complex sentences and

Brainstorming and Planning Recap
You must write at least the number of words specified, or you will
lose marks.
You will not have time to count words in the exam, so count words
when you are practicing so you know roughly how to write.
It is essential to generate ideas as quickly as possible.
Use mind-maps, spider-grams, and lists to organise information
quickly.
A good essay must have a beginning, middle, and end.
Decide what you are going to write and make a brief plan outlining
what each paragraph will contain.
Write brief notes on what you want to include in each paragraph.
This helps to prompt you to write your essay and serves as a useful
checklist when you have finished.
A useful guide to follow is to write approximately 50 words in your
introduction paragraph, around 170 words or more in your main
body paragraphs, and 30-40 words in your conclusion. Remember
that these numbers are flexible.
