Facebook Faces Books: What Can Facebook DO in ELF Learning?

The Third Wave
warns that “the illiterate of the future will not be the 
person who cannot read. . . [i]t will be the person who does not know how to learn. ” To 
date in Taiwan, three-fourths of all children use iPads before they go to junior high 
school. In fact, one in every four students uses an iPad before they enter senior high 
school. 60% of all iPad parents in Taiwan, male parents in particular, believe that 
students’ increased use of technolo
gy is more beneficial than harmful. But today some 
students don’t even want to own an iPad. Why? Because no specific instructions 
accompany the technology that has been offered to them; only the teacher’s self
-
disclosure is given to students who own the iPad. And yet, it turns out that these 
students are enthusiastic about having the iPad. The break-through view of turning the 
role of students from audience into active participants has begun to revolutionize the new 
era of digital education. 
Against these 
percentages, we might then ask: “What has technological sustainability to 
do with student feedback and student response to learning?” 
Now that it is possible to 
record student learning results in Facebook and display them on discussion boards, does 
this imply that digital learning has become more interactive and extensive? This study 
examines how online discussion builds and sustains interactive language learning 
between language learners and teachers. In what ways does the new revolutionary iPad 
teach spinal and provide 24-hour tutoring? What challenges lie before this new 
interaction? How will teachers now assess and grade student performance? How will this 
kind of online interaction change the traditional classroom and redefine the idea of 
management? Finally, what changes should we expect in team working and bridging the 
integration of teachers/course objectives and technology? A questionnaire and interview 
questions are used to collect student feedback for this study.
