Lesson 2 How do I get to...?
UNIT1
Objectives:
• to ask for and give directions
• to listen for detail
• to practise working with a map
Suggestion:
You could do a warmer to revise the words PP already know 
(bank, supermarket, market, bus stop, school, library, hospital, near, next 
to.) Ask PP questions and let them answer. If your PP are strong, they could 
ask the questions as well, 
e.g. 
Teacher: What’s next to/near the market?
PP: 
The bus stop.
Activity 1 a
Objective: 
• to introduce the new vocabulary
PP read the new words, listen to you or the tape say them and then repeat 
them after you or the tape. Make them say the word all together several 
times, then ask individual PP to say the word.

Activity 1 b
Objective: 
• to practise pronunciation and memorise the new vocabulary 
Ask PP to listen to the new words, repeat them. Then work in pairs doing 
point and say. P1 points to any building (words) on the picture. P2 reads. 
Activity 2a, 2b
Objective: 
• to give further practice in using the new words
This is a normal Chain drill. In 2b PP do the same activity, but in pairs.
Activity 3a, 3b
Objective: 
• to listen for detailed information
Ask PP to look at the Remember box. Explain the meaning of the phrases. 
Ask PP to write the numbers 1-3 in their Ex.Bks. Then they look at the map in

1 a, b and listen to the conversations. Stop the tape after each conversation. PP 
write the name of the place the person is asking for. You may need to play the tape twice. 
Then play the tape a third time, line by line. PP repeat after the tape.
