The pie chart gives data about three main and other unknown factors which 
resulted in land degradation around the world, while the table compares their 
impact on North America, Oceania and Europe over the years of 1990s.
We can see immediately that there was less marked difference between the 
key reasons of world land degradation, with over-grazing contributing the 
highest share. According to the table, Europe was the most degraded region of 
all, whereas the significant effect of over-grazing could also be reflected in those 
three areas.
Looking closely at the details, over-grazing caused the most significant damage 
to the worldwide lands, affecting more than a third of them. Deforestation and 
over-cultivation, on the other hand, were responsible for relatively comparable 
numbers at around 30% each. The remaining 7% of lands around the world 
became less productive as the result of other unmentioned factors. 
Regarding the three regions above and the causes of land degradation, it was 
Europe that suffered most. The total figure for infertile lands in this continent 
accounted for just above a fifth, with deforestation causing almost one in ten of 
the damage. However, in North America, the proportion of total degraded lands 
was only 5%. Over-cultivation was the major factor in this region, causing the 
lands to be less productive with 3.3%. Interestingly, there was no any effect of 
cultivating excessively in Oceania, but this was not true with over-grazing at all, 
which contributed 11.3% of damage, quite lower than the total figure (13%).
