TEXT

Linguacultural analysis

A stylistic analysis
follows different levels; based on the
approaches mentioned above, the levels may be together to construct
textual meaning. Here is a basic outline for proper text analysis used in
poetry.
Grammatical level
: Here, the style analyst looks at morphology
and syntax. The level seeks to break down grammar, parts of speech,
clauses, and phrases used in writing. It also distinguishes time, place, and
what might happen next.
Lexical level:
Thus, the level looks at individual words and idioms
as used in different contexts. One needs to understand semantics, word

formation, and morphology.
Semantic level:
Semantics is the study of meaning in linguistics. It
brings out hidden meanings as the reader looks at the environment set by
the poet in a poem.
Pragmatic level.
This is a branch of semantics that discusses how
invisible meanings are established in a text.
Pic.8
Pragmatics analysis
fills the gap between reader and writer or
teacher and student with the greater understanding of ideas. It is as an
approach focuses on language use, the intentions of writer/speaker and
reader /hearer and mainly on contexts in the text.
Pragmatics analysis
studies context, discourse in the text and
function of the language. Yule George states that the context is important.
The socio-psychological factors influence communication, as well as the
knowledge of the time and place in which the words are uttered or
written. (Yule 2) Pragmatics analysis focuses on meaning of the words of
the particular time and context. In the dialogue between two persons, the
speaker tries to construct the linguistic message and intend a meaning,
and the hearer interprets the message and infers the meaning. (Brown and
Yule 2) The meaning of words in communication will be understood on
comprehensibility. The context helps to assume meaning in the text that is
con
assumptions of knowledge that are shared by both speaker and hearer.
For example, when Piggy and Ralph have a conversation about the
fire:
