Michael Cashman – Former Eastenders actor who starred in
a UK touring production The Return of Sherlock Holmes by Ernest
Dudley in 1997.
Hubert S Chambers – Toured the UK provinces with The
Bank of England from 1900 (see John F Preston).

John Cheatle – Played Holmes in a BBC Home Service biog-
raphy of John H Watson, July 1943.
John Cleese – Monty Python star who appeared in an ‘autho-
rised’ spoof called Elementary, My Dear Watson on 18 January
1973, as part of the Comedy Playhouse series for BBC TV. Four
years later he again sent up Holmes in the dire The Strange Case
of the End of Civilisation As We Know It for LWT. His and Arthur
Lowe’s talents were thrown to the wind by the appalling script,
jointly written by Cleese.
