IPSO Smart Objects 
IP for Smart Objects (IPSO) were developed by IPSO alliance to enable semantic 
interoperability across IoT devices and applications. In simple words, IPSO Smart Objects are 
representation of real-life IoT entities (sensors, actuators, meters) in a mark-up language format, 
e.g. XML. Every IPSO Smart Object has its own Object ID and is constituted by several 
resources [19],[20]. As an example, a typical application involving Thread networking protocol 
of IPSO Smart Objects has been shown in Figure 2.3.1.

As shown, IPSO Objects are represented with reusable Object IDs and Resource IDs, 
along with a space in-between to indicate the instance of the object, as there could be several 
objects of same type. This format is used in the typical RESTful commands, to perform various 
methods (GET, PUT, DELETE, POST etc.) over network to facilitate data exchange between 
IP devices.
