In the early nineteenth uzbek girls and women were so much separated from the
public, especially from other gender representators. When they saw any strangers they
considered it as a shame. They tried to avoid such incidents.
―As soon as he had jumped down from the wheel of the cart, the person approached him. ―What a shameless child you are! You should know better, big as you are. Shamelessly looking into a home with nomahram women! If that Razzoq-sufi saw you, he would rip you to pieces!‖ 5 Here also we can see the situation contrast between male and female gender and it is
representing as a shameful situation.
―Zebi knew of her father‘s vicious character. Her father came from the city after hearing about the seizures. Tears flowed from his eyes onto his white beard. ―Daughter,‖ he started, ―if you‘re going to shame me like that, then God tear your head from your neck. You‘ll never escape him.‖‖ 6 In this example which is mentioned above, the actions of the daughter is represented as
bringing a shame to her father. So we can understand here that sometimes parents feel
shame because of their children in uzbek culture.
―And one of them is a terrible womanizer. Our wives and sisters are afraid to go out on the streets. He flirts with all of them, saying shameful things.‖ 7 In the last example also there a contrast between two genders but here lies another
representation of shame. Actually ―shameful things‖ which are in the extract represent the
taboo words which are used in delicate and intimate communication between men and
women. In fact in most European cultures they are not considered as a shame. But in Uzbek
culture even now they are considered as shameful words.
In conclusion, emotion of shame and its representation is quite different in Uzbek
culture rather than other cultures. Usually uzbek people are ashamed of before doing
anything or even in unnecessary situations. Sometimes it can be benefitable for them and
sometimes not. It is also considered one of the peculiarities of mentality of Uzbek people.
Therefor in order to achieve the target which is aimed to communicate between cultures one
should be aware of its differences and similiarities of representing various types of
emations.
