Documents of this type are constantly studied by experts, cited in the press and
scientific research, and are partly of a legal nature. Therefore, when translating them,
it is necessary to pay increased attention to both the style and terminology of texts of
this type. The terminology of these documents is highly standardized and stereotyped.
Without knowing it, the translator will not be able to achieve an adequate official
translation of the texts of the relevant documents. Thus, it is by no means a matter of
indifference whether we translate nuclear weapon States as "states armed with nuclear
weapons" or states possessing nuclear weapons, general and complete disarmament
"general and complete disarmament" or general and complete disarmament. Having
received official consolidation in many published documents, as well as in special
dictionaries and glossaries, terms and terminological phrases pass unchanged from text
to text. An attempt by a translator, for one reason or another, to deviate from the
terminology established in the practice of translation for documents of this type may
unnecessarily enhance the role of personal interpretation [16], create the illusion of a
change in the position of the state, and bring the material into dissonance with existing
wordings on a particular issue.
We also came to the conclusion that socio-political terminology did not appear
in one day, it is over hundreds of years of hard work of diplomats-translators who spent
a lot of time agreeing on certain controversial terms and semi-terms. And an attempt,
for one reason or another, to deviate from established norms may unnecessarily
strengthen the role of personal interpretation, create the illusion of a change in the
position of the state, and bring the material into dissonance with existing formulations
on a particular issue.
