comparative analysis of synonymic groups in english and uzbek

The object
of our research is the lexical synonymy. 
The subject
of the 
research is description of the linguistic and conceptual features of synonymy
based on the comparative analysis of a synonymic group with the head-word 
‘smart” in the English and the Uzbek languages.
The working hypothesis
of the present research is that synonymy is a 
universal language phenomenon caused by interrelation of both linguistic 
(vocabulary) knowledge, extralinguistic knowledge and cognitive processes 
which correlate in the choice of words during in the process of communication.
Despite the fact that there have been published quite a lot of works 
dedicated to synonymy, these works rarely touch upon the comparative features 
of synonymic rows, which accounts for our being able to claim that the range of 
problems highlighted and tackled in the present research have not been dealt 
with before and need their solution.
The tasks set predetermined the usage of the following 
methods of 
research
: the distributional analysis to study the variability of the word 
meaning due to it collocability; contextual analysis to reveal the semantic shifts 
of the words in the context in which they are functioning; componential 
analysis for describing the correlation within the denotational, connotational 
and associative components of meanings of the synonymous words and factors 
influencing semantic changes within the semantic structure, as well as inference 
method. 



The scientific novelty
of the present research lies in the attempt to 
refocus the analysis of the well-known linguistic phenomenon from the 
traditional semasiological aspect to a new linguo-cognitive interpretation which 
consists in the following new approach including: 
1. Analysis of the linguistic peculiarities of synonymic groups as open 
sets leading to appearance of new synonyms at various language levels; 
2. Investigation into the nationally specific variations within the 
synonymic groups representing the concept ‘smart’ in English and Uzbek; 
3. Analysis of the conceptual mechanisms of synonymy formation and 
revelation of the types of cognitive processes underlying the development of 
synonymy.
