Section Objective:
Explain how the lodging segment is integral to the travel and
tourism/hospitality industry.
Section Summary:
The travel and tourism industry consists of three segments:
hospitality, transportation services, and destination alternatives. Within the hospi-
tality segment, there are three basic types of organizations: accommodations
(lodging), foodservices, and other hospitality operations. Hotels are one type of
lodging organization that provide products and services for travelers to and resi-
dents of a community.
