Troubleshooting
Problem: I only see double-meanings of words after other people have pointed
them out.
Solution: The good news is that you are seeing them. When I get my class to do
the redefinitions exercise, I put them into twos and ask them to read to each
other from the Family Scrabble Dictionary slowly and out loud. I tell them to
pause between each word and think about it. If there’s no-one to read to then find
a quiet room and say them out loud yourself. Spend time with each word. If all
else fails, look at the earlier examples and notice how the words break down.
