There are two reasons for allotropy:
1. Difference in numbers of atoms in molecule.
2. Occurrence in many types of crystal structure.
Allotropic transformations are observed in the elements, stated below:
C-carbon-diamond, graphite, carbine, fullerene (60) and lonsdaleite (80)
S- sulphur- rhombic, amorph, monoclinic, crystal.
P- phosphorus- white, black, red and violet.
O- oxygen - atoms, molecularand, ozone
Si– silicon –crystalline silicon (similar to diamond) and amorph.
As– arsenic -yellow (similar to white phosphorus), grey and black.
Sn– tin –white - silver β-Sn and grey α-Sn
Te– tellurium –glossy - silver - grey -Te and amorph tellurium
Sb- antimony-yellow, grey, metallicand black.
