Challenge #1: Intermittent nature of renewables
It is no secret that this is the most obvious barrier and as the name suggests 
these renewable sources are not permanent and power production is intermittent, 
especially wind and solar power sources. To make things more complicated this 
intermittent nature varies from country to another and even over the years since 
global warming is causing climate changes and extreme weather conditions [2]. 
Challenge #2: Cost Issue 
Most energy observers recognize that the cost of renewable energy has 
declined dramatically in the last decade. There are several reasons for the steep 
reduction in renewable costs. One is the improvement in basic product design. 
Wind turbines are now much larger and have much higher capacity factors than a 
decade ago. Although the new designs are more expensive up front, increased 
capacity and capacity utilization have outpaced those higher costs to lower the cost 
of energy produced. Another reason for the cost decline is improvement in 
manufacturing efficiency, which has lowered the costs of producing solar PV 
panels dramatically, particularly in China. And per unit installation “soft” costs are 
declining as project developers gain more experience and installations have moved

from small scale (rooftop solar) to utility-scale operations (solar farms of hundreds 
of acres) [3]. 
According to Union of Concerned Scientists (ucsusa.org), the average cost 
in 2017 to install solar systems ranged from a little over $2,000 per kilowatt for 
large-scale systems to almost $3,700 for residential systems. A new natural gas 
plant might have costs around $1,000/kW; Wind comes in around $1,200 to 
$1,700/kW. 
In addition, what we want to focus on is the solar panels system high cost for 
the regular person according to American solar reviews a system of 10 kW the 
average cost of kilowatt is $3.05 and the total average cost is 22,533 US dollars.
Which is a high value even for American citizens let alone people living in a 
third world country [4, 6].
