CHAPTER III. MARK TWAIN’S AND GAFUR GULAM’S CONTRIBUTION IN THE WORLD LITERATURE


3.1. “Mischievous person” – really immortal novel of Gafur Gulam

Every country has its history, its own great writers and books who can live eternally. In our country it is unconditional really immortal product of the national writer of Uzbekistan Gafur Gulam ‘s “Shum bola”- “Mischievous person”. It created almost seven decades ago, became the reference book for millions of Uzbek people.

This poetical touching story about n a life of people in the beginning of XX century, difficulties of that time, the alive, precisely written out images of main heroes and especially the boy whom for cheerful nature and irrepressible energy have nicknamed simply and clearly “Shum bola” can leave nobody indifferent. Till now this book many times was republished not only in Uzbekistan, but also in many other countries.
The initiator of the new edition in Russian known for a lot the most interesting projects, among which art – gallery “Caravan”, the same restaurant and a beside of others. The high estimation to the book was given by participants of press conference in “Caravan” on which there came also many members of family Gafur Gulam. And then two evenings here there passed presentation of the well-known book. It participants were expected with cheerful action – fragments from performance of Youth Theatre of Uzbekistan, viewing of the known film which has been removed by director Damir Salimov and also an opportunity to get the book which one of the best today has illustrated the Uzbek artist Bobur Ismailov. In opinion to the producer of project Timur Musin, the reference to it now it is caused by aspiration of “Caravan – groups” to give due G. Gulam’s creativity to promote the further development of our culture, art, to acquaint young generation with pearls of the Uzbek literature. For this purpose it is planned to carry out and a member of other projects. T. Musin is firmly convinced, that this and other best books of the country, should become property of millions.
Several years ago Gafur Gulam’s century was celebrated and art – gallery “Caravan” has decided to republish this book with illustrations remarkable young and very much gifted artist Babur Ismailov.
Gafur Gulam’s family and the son of writer Hondamir aka, have helped to make this book together with publishing house “Cho’lpon”. “Shum bola” we found from affair in very small format so that the book was beside that it was convenient for putting in a handbag. It is made that young federation of Uzbek people those who is not familiar with Gafur Gulam’s creativity could read this product. Images of this book always with us, they are really immortal. We have carried out this interesting project together with Youth theatre. Under our invitation the art director of Youth theatre of Uzbekistan, remarkable actor Abduraim Abduvoxobov .
The touch of fine themes seems to us, that, minutes which are given with this book, remarkable performance, beautifully put film on this product, all speaks about greatness of Gafur Gulam, probably, therefore there is a desire to touch more and more time to this talented product. With our purpose was to involve young generation that all today who is such Gafur Gulam. Because basically now the senior generation knows this book, but in fact it can be interesting to all. It is very pleasant for us that all visitors of “Caravan” with pleasure look performance as some series of evenings are carried out. By the way, we were very much frequently have foreign visitors and know it is clear, even without translation all that occurs on a stage , at cinema. The book and its illustrations, it is a good gift and young Uzbek and to all of us.
“I can speak about this book hours, this is my favorite novel. I even would tell, that Gafur Gulam’s story – the original textbook of a life, there are supervision of very clever , talented person what was this graet Uzbek writer. When I have played a leading role in film of Damir Salimov I was 13 years old. I am 42 and in 40 at theatre has played one more role on Gafur Gulam’s work. It in general is possible to tell, has opened to me during a life. Before I dreamed to become the actor , but this film become as though the base of my firm belief to election of an actor’s trade. After an output of film the popularity appeared at me, people began to learn me, even with name “Shum bola” (“Mischievous person”). And now I have read the book in Russian. It is superb issued, made out, and translation is perfectly made. I am very pleased with this edition. I reflect on this product very much and I am convinced, That it gives much for actors.
Therefore I shall tell: read this writer, reflect on that time, in fact when you ready you feel yourself in that time. Give the God that and now there were such writers the actor reads and he would like to play and still to play!”.¹⁴
“The adventures of Tom Sawyer” is a masterpiece of Mark Twain
Twain's major publication was The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which drew on his youth in Hannibal. Tom Sawyer was modeled on Twain as a child, with traces of two schoolmates, John Briggs and Will Bowen. The book also introduced in a supporting role Huckleberry Finn, based on Twain's boyhood friend Tom Blankenship.
