Today, more than ever, advancements in technology influence our jobs, education, scientific development, market and political cooperations, communications, etc. Information and communication technologies have entered every aspect of our lives. Computers are no longer intended for the selected few since they exist in all forms of contemporary life, and thus including educational institutions as well. Every day, we face the infinity of information that needs to be selected among many and then appropriately used. Computer technology has become a part of every-day activities in such an amount that present generations must be computer literate no matter what his/her expert of scientific field might be. Such a situation introduces an idea of on-line web-based curricula in order to respond to increasing demands from society and industry the same. Multimedia can be used for teaching different topics in math, informatics, foreign language learning, biology, chemistry, etc. There is an immense quantity of web pages with already made materials that can be used in the classroom and that cover almost all subjects covered in primary and secondary schools, as well as the materials for the youngest and the oldest students as well. Multimedia as teaching material presents a new method in educational process in Croatia's schools. These educational packages consist of different forms of knowledge. Depending on their design, they can be used for several class periods, for one semester or for even an entire school year. On one hand, these packages make teachers' job easier, especially for the teachers working in dislocated schools, but on the other hand, they require special computer equipment, computer literacy of teachers as well as students, and great motivation. Multimedia packages combine different thematic areas: the main theme, the context on which the language learning is based upon, grammar, written and spoken communication. Teachers also need to include multimedia packages in their lesson micro plans, and then decide on the class type, plan the topic and domain of the material that will be covered,

time needed to complete the assignments, the main objectives of the class, testing, and other. Multimedia refers to content that uses a combination of different content forms. This contrasts with media that use only rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a 2 combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, or interactivity content forms. Multimedia is usually recorded and played, displayed, or accessed by information content processing devices, such as computerized and electronic devices, but can also be part of a live performance. Multimedia devices are electronic media devices used to store and experience multimedia content. Multimedia is distinguished from mixed media in fine art; by including audio, for example, it has a broader scope. The term "rich media" is synonymous for interactive multimedia. Hypermedia can be considered one particular multimedia application. Non-Linearity is the capability of jumping or navigating from within a presentation with one point without appreciable delay. Traditionally, TV shows and motion pictures are considered linear presentation because the user or viewer has to watch the information being prescribed. The user cannot modify the content. Note that the difference between linear and non-linear is blurring as time goes by. Now the DVD format allows you to have a non-linear experience by choosing scenes and going forward and backward.
In a multimedia presentation the user can instantly navigate to different parts of the presentation and display the frames in any way, without appreciable delay, due to which it is called a nonlinear presentation. Non-linear content offers user interactivity to control progress as used with a computer game or used in self-paced computer based training. Today, much of the media content we consume is available in a variety of formats, intended to serve multiple purposes and audiences. For example, a book usually starts out as a print-only product.

However, if the market demand is large enough, it may also be published in a spoken-word format and delivered via compact disc or MP3. With the right equipment, you can avoid paper altogether by downloading the e-book, a digital version of the text designed for reading on a computer screen or a handheld device such as the Kindle or iPad. The website for a bestseller may offer bonus material or value-added content to online users through a gamut of multimedia channels—featuring audio excerpts, video interviews, background stories, pictures, and more. With such a vast sea of information and social networking potential, you can easily imagine many of the other possibilities that exist. Multi-media motivates students to learn more language through audio, visual and animation support. It also helps create English context since an important aspect of learning a language is developing their grammar, vocabulary and knowledge of pragmatics and genres.
