GOVERNMENT OF CANADA BONDS
Intermediate-term bonds (those with initial
maturities from one to ten years) and long-term bonds (those with initial maturities
greater than ten years) are issued by the federal government to finance its deficit.
Because they are the most widely traded bonds in Canada, they are the most liquid
security traded in the capital market. They are held by the Bank of Canada, banks,
households, and foreign investors.
These debt instruments are issued in either bearer or registered form and in
denominations of $1000, $5000, $25 000, $100 000, and $1 million. In the case of
