(2000) examined the inter-state economic and social disparities in India, which
have been increasing in spite of various Government measures to develop backward
areas. And also notified that, regional disparities are found in terms of Demographic
Indicators, Female Literacy, State Domestic Products and Non-Development
Expenditure by State Governments. The reasons for such a state of affair are ineffective
role of the government, inadequate infrastructure development, rent seeking behaviour
of bureaucrates and socio-economic inequalities.
