(2003) studied the inter district and interregional disparities in
social development of West Bengal by using 6 indicators from health and education
sectors. Health dimension includes – access to toilets, rural water supply, availability of
doctors, availability of beds, State Government health facilities, infant mortality and
percentage of safe deliveries, while education sectors constituted total literacy rate,
number of primary schools per ten thousand population, teacher-student ratio at primary
level, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe literacy rate and percentages of schools
having drinking water facilities.
