(1997) highlighted the India’s basic development goal is to eradicate poverty
and accelerate human development. At present situation India has the disappointing
human development profile. There is a strong case for better balance in the depth and
extent of reforms in the economic and social sectors to strengthen a mutually reinforcing
relationship between economic growth and human development. Government and Civil
Society Organisation need to strengthen the steering capacity to convert economic
growth into human development.
