From time immemorial, the representatives of different civilizations, cultural strata, different faiths and worldviews have lived side by side in the land of Uzbekistan. This land is the ancient and sacred place where our ancestors lived. The confluence of the north and the south, the ancient past and the great future, the heart of Central Asia, the human mind is one of the oldest centers of science and culture. Religious and philosophical traditions were formed.
Our three-thousand-year history testifies to the fact that nobility and humanity, the pursuit of interethnic harmony are the highest qualities of our people. The traditions in this regard are passed down from generation to generation.
The role of interethnic harmony in ensuring security and stability is invaluable. On January 13, 1992, the Republican International Cultural Center was established to support their activities and strengthen interethnic harmony.
Uzbekistan’s prestige in the international arena is growing due to the preservation of social and economic stability, the harmonization of inter-religious and inter-ethnic relations.
At the center of large-scale reforms in our country is, first of all, the interests of man, his rights and freedoms. The interests of citizens can be ensured only through the creation of an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, mutual respect, kindness and solidarity.
Today, at a time when the world is facing a crisis related to the caronavirus pandemic, we are witnessing the escalation of inter-ethnic and inter-religious conflicts in many regions.
In Uzbekistan, the multi-ethnic nature of the population is considered a favorable factor for socio-economic development. In particular, education in public educational institutions of the country is conducted in seven languages. There are 138 national cultural centers under the Committee on International Relations and Friendship with Foreign Countries, as well as about 2,300 religious organizations of 16 denominations. The organization operates.
The Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to further improve interethnic relations and friendly relations with foreign countries” provides for stability, peace and harmony in society, strengthening the sense of belonging, comprehensive support and further development of the activities of national cultural centers and friendship societies, expanding cultural and educational ties with foreign countries.
In short, if we want to have a peaceful morning, sleep, study and make plans for the future in our country, then ensuring peace, security and stability will remain a priority. We must act as one.
In the 1980s, some fanatics, who used religion and religious views to their advantage, engaged in subversive activities under the guise of defending Islam. Religious parties began to spread ideas about religious authority. Taking advantage of the mood of the population in the midst of financial difficulties, they tried to sow discord between the government and the people. In Namangan, Andijan, Fergana and Tashkent, various rallies broke out.
In the 1980s, the struggle against Islam, which had become part of the daily life of our people, intensified. It was condemned as heresy and superstition.
However, the atheistic slogan “religion is opium” did not extinguish the faith in religion in the hearts of our people.
The leadership of the republic at that time mobilized all measures and opportunities to ensure interethnic harmony, religious tolerance and stability in the country. Has done the necessary work in this regard.
In this situation, strengthening the atmosphere of inter-religious tolerance in our multi-religious country has become one of the urgent tasks.
When talking about tolerance, it should be noted that this is an ancient virtue of our people. The residence of the Khorasan metropolitan was in the city of Marv.
The historical study of the relationship between the representatives of religions in Uzbekistan, built on mutual respect, shows that the traditions of religious tolerance have been formed in our country for centuries and serve to strengthen such qualities in the minds of young people.
The consistent state policy pursued in the field of interethnic harmony and religious tolerance in our multi-ethnic and multi-religious country has laid a solid foundation for the peaceful coexistence of people of different nationalities and all religious denominations. Today’s reality is a vivid proof of this.
According to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Organizations” adopted on the basis of the Constitution: actions (proselytism), as well as any other missionary activity are prohibited. Persons guilty of violating this rule shall be held liable in accordance with the legislation. “
In order to ensure peace, development and prosperity in the country, to strengthen social stability, representatives of all religious denominations are participating in spiritual and educational events organized in our country and abroad.
They also take an active part in promoting inter-religious harmony in the country and countering missionary activities that cause various conflicts and complications. The lectures are important for the world community to get acquainted with these reforms. Such an attitude is also rewarded by the state. This is evidenced by the fact that Metropolitan Vladimir was awarded the Order of Friendship.
Indeed, in the country where people of different nationalities and ethnic groups live, the focus on religious tolerance and interethnic harmony has once again proved itself. From the speech of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Miromonovich Mirziyoyev , protection of the rights and freedoms, legitimate interests of every citizen, regardless of language and religion, a guaranteed source of income, medical services and quality housing education; Our policy of strengthening the atmosphere of mutual respect and solidarity, creating the necessary conditions for different religious denominations will be consistently pursued. ‘’
