Introduction 
Culture is a collection of people's social behavior and norms that is set organized and 
cherished in the definite location or community. Culture includes language, customs, 
traditions, food, clothing and other social norms. It serves to unite people and value 
their way of living by preserving and respecting their daily traditions and social 
conduct in the society. I think culture and its elements plays vital role as a way of 
representing one's nation. Culture can be defined as noun-the arts, writings, intellectual 
achievement and other visible characteristics of a particular group of people or society. 
These are the parts of culture that are easy to see and recognize – our food, our 
traditional clothes, our music. But there’s a second definition of culture. The thoughts, 
traditions, and social behavior of a society. And these are the aspects that are more 
difficult to see and include things like gender roles (how women are expected to behave 
and how men are expected to behave), attitudes towards friendship and our ideas of 
time. They are an essential part of what makes each culture different and unique, and 
are sometimes what makes communication between cultures complex. 
Teachers are responsible for teaching language based on cultural background of 
language usage. If learners are taught the target language without the culture in which 
it operates, the students are acquiring the language without wholly understanding its 
important points. 
In EFL classrooms, as we teach the language, we would 
automatically teach culture. The ways of addressing, greeting, and other utterances 
found in the dialogues represent cultural knowledge. Cultural insights are fostered by 
gestures, body movements, and distances maintained by speakers. In teaching foreign 
language, we need to be sensitive to the fragility of students by using techniques that 
promote cultural understanding. (Cohen 2003:95) (Jiang 2000:50)
