This recommendation helps teachers to organize their lessons interesting and effectively, to 
develop pupils’ oral and written speech, to support pupils’ listening, reading and vocabulary skills. 
Different types of games rise pupils’ interests to learn more and more during the lessons. 
Key words: age of pupils, speed, listening, questions, to consolidate the lesson, to remember, 
do not forget, learn and involve.
The classification of games
When we teach pupils we must kept in mind oft-quoted Confucian maxim which remains as 
relevant today as it did almost three and a half thousand years ago: Tell me and I forget
Show me and I remember
Involve me and I learn
I want to say that when we use different kinds of games during the lessons we will success. 
Games offer interactive for learning and teaching English as a second Language. Games are mostly 
suitable for teaching kids and teenagers. There are activities for teaching and practicing English 
grammar, vocabulary, sentences, listening and pronunciation skills. By playing games learners 
learn English vocabulary, sentence structures, grammar, listening, pronunciation and phonics 
easily. There are many kinds of games, such as memory games, sentence games, interactive board 
games, matching games and others. 
By doing the games and activities pupils will acquire and practice the various skills they will 
need for the different tasks they will have to do in real life. Equally, important, however, is the fact 
that the activities provide a welcome break from the more formal teaching methods often used in 
during the lesson, they allow pupils to work together in pairs, groups or teams to solve problems 
and complete tasks, adding an enjoyable, competitive and non-threatening element to what can 
otherwise be a fairy dry subject.
Games and fun activities are a vital part of teaching English as a foreign language. Whether you 
are teaching adults or children, games will liven up your lesson and ensure that your pupils will 
leave the classroom wanting more. 
Games can be used to warm up the class before your lesson begins, during the lesson to give 
pupils a break when you are tackling a tough subject, or at the end of class when you have a few 
minutes left to kill. There are literally hundreds, probably thousands, of games that you can play 
with your pupils. Games are used to test vocabulary, practice conversing, learn tenses matching 
activities, find the adjectives and so on.
Kinds of games every teacher should know will help get you started and feeling prepared. 
Having these up your sleeve before stepping into the classroom will ensure your lessons run 
smoothly, and should things get a little out of control, you will be able to pull back the attention of 
the class in no time.
