JSC «Urgench yog-moy» produces a mixture of fatty acids, which is mainly
used in the production of household soaps. But these mixtures contain significant

amounts of saturated and unsaturated acids. As we conduct research on the
development of cost-effective technologies for the production of detergents, the
percentage of this saturated and unsaturated fraction in the composition is an
important indicator for us. Therefore, the fatty acid composition of the fatty acid
mixture produced at «Urgench yog-moy» JSC was studied.

The results of this experiment will serve as a basis for the next stages of our
research. The next task of our research is to study the possibility of using non-food
seed oils as a raw material in the production of detergents.

Fatty acids are valuable products that are used in various areas of the national
economy. One of their sources is the waste of alkaline refining of vegetable oils, the
so-called soap stocks, which are concentrated aqueous solutions of soaps and organic
impurities. The qualitative and quantitative composition of soap stocks depends on
the type of refined oil.
As practice has shown, distilled fatty acids of different colors and content of
accompanying substances are obtained at fat-and-oil enterprises, which must be
refined with activated adsorbents.
This approach is considered to purify distilled fatty acids from the remaining
coloring pigments and related substances. Despite the similarity of the sorption
capabilities of activated clays, they do not always provide the required quality of fatty
acids for cosmetic, paint and etc. industries. Taking this into account, we carried out
studies of adsorptive purification and bleaching of fatty acids of cotton soap stock
and their individual fractions on the developed adsorbents.
On the basis of experimental and theoretical studies of the process of
purification of fatty acids of cotton soap stock with acid-activated bentonite
adsorbents, we can say that coloring pigments associated with fatty acids (gossypol,
chlorophyll and their derivatives, etc.) have different kinetic sorption parameters,
which give rise to further search for effectively activated adsorbents based on local
kaolin minerals.
Table 1 shows the main physicochemical parameters of the initial and purified
FFA on selected local activated adsorbents.
It can be seen from practice that distilled fatty acids are used depending on their
physicochemical parameters, for example, pour point (titer), color, the content of
non-fatty substances, etc.
The use of this installation also does not contribute to the maximum removal of
coloring pigments (gossypol, chlorophyll, and their derivatives) and non-fatty
substances.
Therefore, we have studied the possibility of adsorption before purification of
solid and liquid fractions of DFA of CO on selected adsorbents (tab. 1).
