Translation in the XVI-XVII centuries
Poet Binoi, who worked in Shaibonikhan's Palace, wrote the book "Shaiboninoma" and gave much information about Shaiboni and his empire. In 1533 Binoi's book «Shaiboninoma» was translated from Persian-Tadjik into Uzbek by a historian and poet Bayoni. In 1530-1539 Ubaydulla, the nephew of Shaibonikhan ruled the country. Ubaydulla also was a translator. He knew Arabic and Persian and wrote verses in these languages under the penname of "Ubaydi". Under the penname «Ubaydi» Ubaydullakhan translated "Khadis" (Prophit Mukhammad's sayings) from Arabic into Uzbek.
Classic examples of Uzbek literature such as Navoi’s “Majolisun-nafois” and Bobur’s “Boburnoma” were translated several times into the Persian-Tadjik language. One of the great monumental works of the classic Uzbek literature – “Boburnoma” is known by the names of “Tuzuki Boburi”, “Voqeoti Boburi”, “Voqeanomae shoh Bobur” in the West.
In the XVII-XVIII centuries Uzbek translators used the principle of free translation in their works. This can be seen in the works of Khomushi and Mukhammad Temur. Khomushi translated a part of “Shohnoma” with nasr and nazm, he gave main attention to the plot of the work. He didn’t give the exact translation of expressions and descriptions in verses of Firdausi, in majority places he used artistic means, which belong to the epos of Uzbek nation.
Tables of Al-Khorazmiy, Battoni, AL-Khazini, Beruni, Nasriddin Tusiy and Ulugbek were known to Western European scientists in the XI-XVII centuries. They were translated into European languages and gained an important place in the development of science in the East and Europe. Ulugbek’s famous astronomic tables “Ziji Kuragoni” (Kuragoni tables) was first translated in 1648, in England. The copies of the manuscript are kept in the libraries of England, France, Turkey, India and an old copy, which was written in Persian, can be found in Oriental Institute of Uzbek Science Academy.
Question:

  1. How “Shaiboninoma” was translated into Uzbek by Bayoni?

  2. What translation principles were significant in this century?

  3. How “Baburnama” was translated into Persian?

  4. What translators translated “Baburnama” into Persian?
