Objectives of Thesis 
In order to achieve the objective of abstraction by means of the SDK and Wakaama 
libraries, the entire work can be structured into following objectives:

In-depth study and presentation of the OMA LWM2M standard 
As introduced in section 1.3, device management is one of the most important 
requirements of the nodes in an IoT ecosystem throughout their individual life cycle. LWM2M 
being one of the most popular and useful device management protocols, it is imperative to have 
in-depth understanding of it, to successfully provide abstraction for it. Also, the fact that Eclipse 
Wakaama does not come with any documentation makes it necessary to have LWM2M studied 
in detail to be able to understand Wakaama.

Study and analysis of IPSO object model, CoAP 
ISPO Object Model: 
IP for Smart Objects (IPSO) were developed by IPSO alliance to enable 
semantic interoperability across IoT devices and applications. In simple words, IPSO Smart 
Objects are representation of real-life IoT entities (sensors, actuators, meters) in a mark-up 
language format, e.g. XML [8]. LWM2M provides support for object models such as IPSO. A 
simplified LWM2M protocol stack has been shown in Figure 1.5.2.1:

Wakaama has been implemented as a scalable library with scope to integrate IPSO 
objects as per the application requirement.
CoAP: 
Constrained Application Protocol, or CoAP is a web-transfer protocol based on REST

model, to be used by nodes with resource constraints [10]. LWM2M is based on CoAP over

TCP/UDP and hence it is required to comprehend concept of CoAP, to work on a LWM2M 
implementation such as Wakaama.
