Teacher as a controller.
When the teachers act as a controller they do a lot of talking, in other words they explain rules, give examples. During this stage student’s mistakes will be corrected instantly.
The teacher as an assessor (maslahatchi)
All teacher’s control ends with assessment. We have two types of assessment:
Correction
Feedback
Feedback occurs when student has already finished his work-task. And the teacher explains, i.d. gives feedback to let the students know well they have performed the activity. Here teacher asks the students’ opinion about correctness, we also should differentiate “content feedback” and form feedback”.
Content feedback deals with the activity performed by the students, and form feedback with the language forms.
Question: What kind of feedback do you usually us at your lessons? Teacher as an organizer.
This is the most important role of the teacher, because success in teaching depends much on how teacher performs his/her role as an organizer.
Question: What do you think how must the teacher act as an organizer?
Give instructions how to perform the task;
Check their understanding, demonstrate. It is very useful to check their understanding;
Teacher should often encourage students and activate them at the lesson when they are confused and don’t know what to do.
As a prompter teacher suggest what to day or how to go on performing when student involved in simulation activity they need some prompt.
Ex. When actors perform on the scene they also need a prompt.
Question: have you ever act as a prompter at our lessons?
The teacher as a participant.
During the lesson when student have pair of group work teacher might join activities as participants and sometimes they also may play roles.
Teacher’s participation will impruve the speech atmosphere and give the students chance to practice English with the person ho speaks English better than them.
Teacher’s participation should be equal not dominating.
