Teresa Bey, Principal
August 8, 2016
Dear HES Parents/Community,
My name is Teresa Bey, and I am so happy to be the principal at Hyattsville Elementary School! I would like to take this opportunity to give you a little background about your new principal. I was born and raised primarily in Brooklyn, NY. I am married with two sons who are 26-years-old and 22-years-old. I have one daughter who is 17-years-old. I have 4 sisters and 3 brothers. I love my family to pieces! Before deciding to follow my dream of becoming a teacher, I worked as a Paralegal in New York, New York. I received a Masters of Education in 2002, and worked for two years in New York City Public Schools as a 5th grade teacher. In 2004 my family moved to Fort Washington, Maryland where I began teaching 2nd grade at Apple Grove Elementary.
I have worked in the Prince George’s County Public School system for 12 years as a classroom teacher, Tag and Testing Coordinator, Math Specialist, Lead Teacher, Math Resource teacher with the Mathematics Department, and as Assistant Principal at Carrollton Elementary School for 4 years. I also engaged in several leadership development programs (Pre Leaders Academy; Aspiring Leaders Program for Student Success; School Leaders Network) that were offered in the county which have prepared me for the role of principal. I am excited to be a part of your wonderful community, and know that together, we will give your children the best education possible!
My priorities for the upcoming school year will be to ensure that we have outstanding academic achievement for all students. We are prepared to work closely with you to bring out your children’s strengths, as well as help them through any obstacles to learning. We will provide a safe and orderly environment to ensure that learning can take place. It is important that we communicate often. You will receive newsletters informing you of what is happening at school, upcoming events that are taking place, and community information. Information will also be posted on our school website, as well as links to our school system website and other sites of interest. You can contact me and my staff through phone calls, email, or just stop by. You can find a current staff list as well as our email addresses on the HES website. I have an open door policy, and would be glad to meet with you whenever possible! This is your school, and you are always welcome!

School Meals
Meals are provided for both breakfast and lunch, or students may bring their lunch to school. However, microwaves and refrigerators are not available for student lunches. We will continue this school year to participate in the Maryland Meals for Achievement (MMFA) program. This program provides free breakfast for all students. Meal prices for this year are $2.75 for full price lunch and $.40 for reduced price. Please be sure your children have money in their lunch accounts or bring a lunch to school. Students who attended HES last year will have the same PIN number. New students will be issued a PIN number and may deposit money into their account. This will begin on the first day of school. You can deposit money in your child’s account on-line at MySchoolBucks.com. You will need to know your child’s ID number from the school system. The office cannot loan lunch money. Students who do not bring lunch or have money will be given a cheese sandwich and milk by the cafeteria. There will be no exceptions; this is the school system’s policy. Breakfast is eaten in the classrooms, and should be done prior to the beginning of instruction at 8:00 a.m. Please ensure that your child is on time for breakfast so that they can finish and begin learning when instruction begins. We are asking that all parents fill out the Free/Reduced lunch form for their children. This information enables us to identify the true needs of the school, and determine how to enhance our school program. Thanks for your support!
I look forward to seeing you and your child at the meet and greet. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Again, I am looking forward to being your principal, and having a great school-year! See you soon!
Sincerely,
Teresa Bey
Principal
