The change agent role

The  implementation  of  strategy  means  that  HR 

specialists have to act as change agents, facilitating 

change  by  providing  advice  and  support  on  its  

introduction  and  management.  Caldwell  (2001) 

categorized HR change agents in four dimensions:

Transformational change – a major change 

that has a dramatic effect on HR policy and 

practice across the whole organization.

2 

Incremental change – gradual adjustments of 

HR policy and practices which affect single 

activities or multiple functions.
