L.P. Petrova, an English teacher at secondary school No. 2 in the village of Urmary, Chuvash Republic, shares her pedagogical experience.
Now everyone understands that the Internet has enormous information capabilities and no less impressive services, and can be used as a visual aid. However, we do not get tired of repeating that, no matter what properties this or that means of teaching, the information-subject environment, didactic tasks, the features of the cognitive activity of students, due to certain goals of education, are primary. The Internet with all its capabilities and resources is a means of realizing these goals and objectives. /Appendix 20/
When learning a foreign language, for example, a student can complete tasks and exercises contained in documents on the Internet, correspond via e-mail in the language being studied, participate in virtual communication clubs - teleconferences, exchange text messages in real time, talk on the phone, listen radio programs, watch videos of the country of the language being studied./ 14/
With the help of the Internet, it is possible to successfully carry out productive training in various types of foreign language speech activities - writing, reading, speaking, listening. Access to constantly changing and expanding sources of educational information makes learning a foreign language very productive. Learning using the Internet is a creative process that allows you to develop and develop new methodological techniques. In the learning process, it is necessary to choose the types of texts, ways to study them, forms of communication and control. Learning on the computer allows you to study the course at a pace that suits your abilities. The will and diligence of the student. The content of educational information on the Internet is implemented using a hypertext approach, which allows you to study the material in any order, at different levels of foreign language proficiency, and the interactive mode, which is an integral feature of the Internet, turns the learning process into a joint activity of the student and teacher. / 18 /
The use of computer technology allows students to overcome the psychological barrier to the use of a foreign language as a means of communication. One manifestation of this barrier is the so-called "fear of error". Students note that when using computer technology, they do not feel embarrassed by making mistakes, and receive fairly clear instructions on how to overcome the mistake made. / 11 /
At http://www.chat.ru./English Language there is a site that includes the following sections: "Topics", "Poems", "Dialogues", "Country Studies", "Dictionaries". Using the "Correspondence" section, you can choose a topic and a correspondence partner in English.
The topics section contains a lot of useful information and provides for translation using a dictionary, which makes it possible to recommend the materials of this section for use during studying reading, for example , on the topic “My Country”, as well as as source material for students to write essays. This section also includes texts from the book "English Topics for All Topics" on the topics: "About School", "Mass Media", "Moscow and Everything Connected with It", "Countries of the English Language", "About Famous people”, “Holidays”, “Sports”, “Art: books, theater, cinema, music, museums, galleries”, “Travel”, “USA”. All texts are equipped with post-text questions aimed at checking the perception and accurate understanding of language means, extracting and comprehending information.
Of great interest is the collection of topics - essays compiled in accordance with the New Cambridge English Course program. Here are options for writing creative essays on a given modern topic that can be used to teach, for example, introductory reading and monologue speech.
If you need to translate the text, you need to go to the "Dictionaries" page ( http://www.chat.ru./~English Language/diction.htm), where you can use translation using dictionaries. The use of electronic dictionaries seems to be especially convenient when it is necessary to translate not one dictionary, but several of them at once, for example , when working with the “key words” of a text, dialogue, when performing exercises on teaching reading at the pre-text stage. And of course, the ability to use almost any dictionary via the Internet saves the teacher's time and effort, and promotes creative work. /Appendix 21/
The section "Poems" includes poems in English corresponding to the curriculum. Here are both very simple poems intended for memorization by beginning schoolchildren, and more voluminous poems, sometimes accompanied by a translation.
The "Reading Room" section can be used to teach reading in English, both fiction, film scripts, and on-line versions of newspapers in Russia, England, Scotland, Ireland, USA, Canada, Japan. This section includes original literary and newspaper texts./ 21/
The Internet has almost unlimited possibilities. First of all, it is important to decide for what purposes we are going to use its capabilities and resources. For example :
 to include network materials in the content of the lesson;
 for independent search for information by students as part of the work on the project;
 for self-study, deepening the first or second foreign language being studied, eliminating gaps in knowledge, skills, abilities . / 14 /
All these, quite obviously, are different tasks, united, however, by a single goal of learning - the formation of communicative competence. Based on the specifics of the subject, knowing the didactic properties and functions of the Internet, its capabilities and resources, we can determine for which didactic tasks certain services and resources of the network can be used. Only after that it is possible to decide on the method of their application in the classroom or after school hours . / 15 /
International projects that are organized on the Internet on the basis of some common problem, the study of which, its solution are equally interesting and significant for partners from different countries, creates a genuine language environment.
The participants in the work on the project are concerned with reflection, research, respectively, search, collection of the necessary information, its discussion among themselves and with partners. And most importantly - the means of forming and formulating thoughts. This is a true learning environment, a real immersion not only in the problem under study, but also in the foreign language activity itself, in another culture. / 7 /
And the main thing is that it is being researched, discussed by the project participants and solved in a foreign language accepted for communication in this community of participants. When working on the project, almost the most diverse possibilities and resources of the Internet are involved. The search for the necessary information leads the project participants to virtual libraries, databases, virtual cafes and museums, to various information and educational servers. The need for live communication with real partners draws its participants to the possibilities of e-mail, teleconferencing, chat technologies./ 1/
So, it can be noted that teaching a foreign language using the Internet and a computer allows you to make and implement an informed choice of the best learning option in terms of time efficiency.
