CLASSES IN THERAPY

Ceorge and his fellow student Nick, who had recently recovered from his illness, came to the therapeutic department of the clinic in Svoboda street to attend the classes in therapy.

During the first classes the students acquainted themselves with the work of the reception ward. There a nurse on duty was receiving those patients who had to be hospitalized. They had already the direction from the polyclinic. The nurse on duty was filling in patient’s case histories. There she was recording the following date: name, age, place of employment, occupation address and the initial diagnosis by a district doctor.
That day the first patient admitted to the in-patients department was Comrade Belov. He was a railway worker, 52 years of age, with a bad heart attack. The onset of the diseases had been sudden and severs. He had already been confined to bed for three days. He was very pale and weak. It was clear that he has suffering from some serious heart impairment.
The students saw how the patient was undressed and laid dawn on a stretcher. The student also saw other patients with different diseases of inner organs. The doctor on duty examined them and gave his instructions to which wards the patients had to be directed.
The same day students acquainted themselves with the main rules of carrying on a physical examination and making a family history by questioning patients thoroughly.

OUR BEST WARD NURSES

Nina Ivanovna is our best ward nurse. She works at our hospital and everybody respects her very much. In the morning she always comes into the ward with a smile on her face. And every patients when he sees her kind smile feels better everything she does in the ward she does quickly and quietly. If there is a bed – patients in the ward Nina comes up to him. She brushes his sheets or changes them if it is necessary. She shakes the pillow. Then Nina brings a basin and washes the patient's face and hand. She is especially politely with old people. Nina makes injections, puts mustard plasters and cups. She never hurts her patients with a rude word.

The doctors always say: “When Nina is at work we don't worry. We know that everything will be all right.”
