A CASE OF BRONCHITIS
Patient Smirnov called in a physician from the local polyclinics. He could not go to the polyclinic himself because his temperature was about 38 C.
In a few hours doctor Belova, a good therapeutist came to the call.
Doctor Belova wanted to know the patient’s complains. When the patient was being questioned asked by the physician on his condition he said that a short, painful dry cough associated with rapid respiration had developed two days before. In addition to that the patient
complained of the pain both in the throat and behind the breastbone.
While the patient was being examined the physician listened to his heart and lungs and then measured his blood pressure. Neither the blood pressure nor the heart sounds were abnormal. But both dry and moist rails were heard in the lungs, patient breathed with difficulty. The physician also determined that the patient felt discomfort in the chest.
On the basis of all findings the physician made the diagnosis of acute bronchitis in a mild form. He thought it was neither a catarrh nor a cold. The amount of the discharge from the bronchial mucous membrane was large and it accumulated in the bronchial tubes the air which was breathed in and impaired breathing.

IN THE CLINIC

Let us go through the clinic and see what is going on there. The men’s wards are on the second floor. We go up a broad staircase and there is a long and light corridor. There are six large windows on the right hand fair doors on the left, opposite the window.

Three doors leading to the wards are open, the last door at the end of the corridor is shut, it leads to a bath – room.
Two young men are walking down the corridor. They are talking in a law voice and laughing now and again. An elderly man is standing at the window and looking into the garden. All three are wearing loose gray grown and have slippers on their feet. The patients are convalescent they are recovering after operation. They hope to leave the clinic return home soon.
Now one of them is giving a patient some, medicine. The other is adjusting the pillow under the head of another patient. The patients are expecting the visit of the chief of the clinic. As a rule Professor Mahmudov makes his round every morning.
