The textbook for the student is the core of this system. All associated training facilities with it depend on the textbook directly or indirectly. The main content of the textbook consists of exercises. Textbooks reflect complex approach to learning process, which in practice means parallel training for all four kinds of speech activity - listening, speaking (in two forms – monologue and dialogue), reading and writing. Although the writing is not a subject of special study in the school, yet its role as a medium of instruction is difficult to mark.However, the textbook as a guide by which a foreign language is taught, does not transmit a sounding speech. Therefore the textbook is provided with a CD for listening activities and some videotapes are also attached .
The textbook, must be used along with a number of visual aids, especially on primary and secondary stages of education. These include the didactic material ("cash" with letters, combinations of letters, numbers, and so on), the album with colorful pictures for the development of speaking skills.
In addition to the textbook there also should be a special use of learning and reading material during independent work. Here we are talking about a workbook with exercises on the basis of the so-called printing. For example, in workbook there can be a task - to insert appropriate article or synonym which student must write in pencil on a blank area of the corresponding lexical unit. Such exercises can be preparation for studying language material and to master the relevant types of speaking activity.To improve the effectiveness of teaching a textbook should be equipped with special books for “home reading”, dictionaries and reference books of different character (grammar reference, lexical comments, directory of regional geographical notes, etc.).
10.2.Learning set of a teacher
Central, organizing and guiding element of the second subsystem - the subsystem aids designed for teachers are two facilities: the standard program of a school course "foreign language" and a book for the teacher, the latter must conform strictly to the textbook.
The main objective of the book for the teacher is to offer specific methodological recommendations directed to the most appropriate solution and rational all educational objectives set out in the book for the student teacher to provide assistance to methodically competent construction series of lessons, individual lessons, and also relevant phases of individual lessons. Specific and methodical commitment of recommendations- the main feature of the current manual.
Because of the high requirements to modern lessons the use of various range of effective learning tools foreign language teacher’s set should be more capacious in comparison with a set of pupil: he is obliged to ensure the successful development of such kinds of foreign language activities as listening, speaking, reading, and create the most favorable conditions for mastering language material. The scope of the teacher must include: programs, a book for teachers; set of tracks as a disk, and as films; set videotapes; didactic distributing material; large format wall paintings; handouts; collection of programmed exercises.
