Variant 1.
What are the four specific features of Old English literature?
Show the distinct features of Middle Ages in “The Death of King Arthur”.
1 . Features that are reminiscent of old English. Instead of being analytic or isolating, OE was synthetic or fusional. There was a lot of inflection in the noun, verb, adjective, and pronoun. As a result, word order was not as strict as it is in modern English. OE's lexicon was heavily influenced by Germanic words (approximately 85 per cent of the vocabulary used in OE is no longer in use in Modern English). Compounding, prefixing, and suffixing were the most common methods of word production, with little borrowing from other languages. Gender was a linguistic construct rather than a logical or natural one. Vowels were pronounced longer in the olden days. Even though the sounds were -, the letters j, q, and v were never utilised in writing. Grammatical Gender - Much like French, grammatical gender writing dealt with religious and isolating themes.
The four main features of Old English literature
• Continental long vowels
• Sign system combining chosen runes and the Roman (or Latin) alphabet
• Determined function in synthetic language – inflection (word ends)
• Paratactic language - grammatical structure that is coordinated (connect simple sentences with conjunctions, such as "and")
2 . In many ways, the legend of Arthur was instrumental in the development of mediaeval culture. It also aided in the formation of the United Kingdom as we know it today. Arthur may have been invented by the British, but he legitimised the image of Britain as a great nation. The legend of King Arthur's rise and fall, as well as the Round Table's fellowship, is told in English. The Round Table is a group of people that sit around a table Merlin, a knowledgeable wizard, designed the Round Table to represent the universe's roundness. The Round Table was established by Merlin for King Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon. The knights in King Arthur's court were to be treated as equals; he did not want them to battle over status or rank.
