SECTION VI.

CHAPTER IX.

The following dates of the several tenures of office of the undermentioned King's Bailiffs are taken partly from inferences drawn from the Rolls themselves and partly from other records, it is remarkable that the Patent Rolls as published contain so few references to them, they must have been appointed by letters patent.

Brian de insula (7 to 12 Hy. III.) six years. The Pipe Roll records the grant to him of the 7 Hy. III. of the farm of the Peak and of Bolsover for ,£50.

robert de lexington (12 to 18 Hy. III.) five years. The Pipe Roll of 12 Hy. III. records his appointment. ralf fil nicolas, for one year (18 to 19 Hy. III.) john goband, for three years (19 to 21 Hy. III.) thomas de furnival, half a year (21 Hy. III.) warner engaine, for five years (21 to 26 Hy. III.) john de grey, for six years (27 to 32 Hy. III.) William DE horsenden, for one year (33 Hy. III.)
