- Used only in the present tense
- (the Present Simple).
- For example:
- 1) My friend can speak English and German very well.
- 2) I can do this exercise.

- We use could when we want to say that someone knew how to do something in the past (now, most likely, they no longer know how).
- e.g.
- 1)He could speak French many years ago (now he can`t).
- 2)My granny could dance tango when she was a young girl (now she can`t do it).

- In negative sentences, we attach not to can / could to form cannot (can`t) or could not (couldn’t).

- Note! Could describes the present tense here, not the past.

- The verb can is not used in the future tense, we use will be able to instead.
