INTRODUCTION.
As you know, ensuring the stability of the pit edges of quarries is a very urgent 
problem. The issues of stability are solved in the conditions of the unique diversity of mining and 
geological conditions in a very strict economic framework when determining both the maximum 
depth of open-pit mining and the slope angles of the pit edges on the limit contour. The stability of 
the slopes is considered by most experts as a result of the manifestation of rock pressure. Along 
with the commonality of a number of issues of ensuring the stability of slopes, there are also 
differences and this is primarily due to the peculiarities of the geological structure of deposits, 
development technologies and requirements for the extracted raw materials. For example, quarries 
for the extraction of non-ferrous metals and iron ores have much in common both in terms of the 
range of engineering and geological conditions, and in terms of development technology. High 
value of non-ferrous metal ores technologies for the development of metals and iron ores have 
much in common both in terms of the range of engineering and geological conditions, and in their 
development provides for the use of expensive landslide measures, while in the conditions of iron 
ore quarries they may be economically impractical, etc. 
In the rock massif during the open-pit mining of deposits, mining and geological phenomena 
occur.
Management of these phenomena is possible by maneuvering mining factors. The most 
dangerous type of destruction of quarry slopes is landslides [1]. The main property of landslides is 
the displacement of rock masses on the surface, called the sliding surface. The shape of the sliding 
surface and its location in the massif depend on geological factors, physical and mechanical 
properties of the rocks, as well as on the geometric parameters of the slope. In the table.1 shows the 
types of landslides, their characteristics and the main conditions of occurrence.
