Abstract: 
In mechanical engineering, it is widespread to make parts on the basis of die forms, 
which allows to reduce metal consumption when converting the design of a workpiece into a 
finished part. The design of die working surfaces deforms over time and wears out under high 
stresses. The article describes the main ways to improve the strength of the surfaces of dies, in 
particular, the method of making prefabricated dies using corrosion-resistant coatings by ionic 
nitriding. The main working surfaces of dies are the die and die surfaces, and we know that in 
modern mechanical engineering the need for non-technological surface parts is increasing day 
by day. This leads to independent work on the technology. The production of the working 
surfaces of molds is carried out in several stages. The most important part of die mold 
production is heat treatment. The article provides information about the methods of heat 
treatment of stamping molds, gives information about the methods of ionization and nitriding. In 
modern mechanical engineering, heat treatment is of great importance in the production of 
parts. Heat treatment is performed according to certain requirements. During heat treating it is 
necessary to heat all parts of working surfaces and properly distribute coatings. The surface 
strength of the working surface also depends on this. The main working surfaces of dies do not 
always consist of flat surfaces, which creates certain difficulties during heat treatment and 
coating.
