THE INFLUENCE OF THE EPOS “KITABI-DEDE KORKUT” (“THE BOOK
OF DEDE KORKUT”) ON TURKISH SAGAS
(The Parallelism Of “Baybora Oglu Bamsi Beyrek” and “Alpamish”)
Summary
“The Book of Dede Korkut” is one of the two great literary monuments that form the basis of the Ogouz epic traditions.
The epos of “The Book of Dede Korkut” having place in the main line of the Turkish epos tradition in the various aspects as a perfect folk epic text had had more or less influence in the process of the formation and shaping of a number of Turkish epics that emerged after it. Among them, in particular, the epic “Alpamish” draws attention.
“Alpamish” is an Uzbek folk epic occurred in the territory of Central Asia in a variety of variants. The epic “Alpamish” was formed benefiting in various aspects from the lay of “Baybora oglu Bamsi Beyrek” of the epos “The Book of Dede Korkut”. This is clearly observed from the beginning throughout the epic story “Alpamish”in separate moments of the plot. Here benefiting occurred from a certain motive, character, plot elements, etc.
Sometimes “Baybora oglu Bamsi Beyrek” is called as the Oguz variant of the “Alpamish”. However, comparison of the two texts shows clearly that the lay of “Baybora oglu Bamsi Beyrek” is older in the historical and chronological aspect and the epic “Alpamish” was created benefiting from it.
