Activity Bank


Throughout this course you will see many different activities that can be used to teach English. Keep a record of these activities in this Activity Bank, so that you will have many good ideas ready to use when you begin teaching. One is provided for you, to get you started.

TPR (Total physical response) Uses commands, actions and gestures to show meaning and model language structures

All ages; beginning levels

Good for teaching action words (verbs),concrete nouns, and prepositions

Students have a lot of fun. This is especially good for children and active learners.

Story time. Students practice phrasal verbs by telling a story. The first student repeats the sentence and continues the story by adding

a sentence containing a phrasal verb



Pre-intermediate

Good for teaching phrasal verbs and past tense




Find your partner. One card has a sentence containing an idiomatic expression and the

other card has a sentence containing the meaning. Each student finds his or her partner. In a table on the board, they write the idiomatic expression in one column and the meaning in another.

When was the last time…? A communicative activity to practice the past tense with idioms.

Tell your phone number. The T puts words differing in one sound under each number from 1 to 9. Ss are asked to tell their phone numbers telling these words.(mat-met-etc.)
