Matpanabay madrasah
Madrasah is located to the north from the Juma Mosque. This madrasah was built by Matpanabay, one of the richest merchants of the Khanate in 1905. Construction of the madrasah was carried out by the chief masters of Khiva Hudaybergen Haji and Qalandar Kochum. The portal of the madrasah turned by the facial part to the east and from the southern side a corridor is designed to enter the madrasah. In the madrasah there are more than ten hujras for students, a darskhana (classroom), and in the southern part a domed mosque. Descendants of Matpanabay now live in Tashauz, Turkmenistan.
In 2001 in the premises of madrasah the exposition of the museum of history of "Avesta" dedicated to 2700 anniversary since the creation of this well-known book of ancient Khorezmians was open.
"Avesta" was not only an invaluable historical work which took into itself religious worldview and concepts of our ancestors and as well as a unique historical source, at the same time, revered by the world scientific community but also as a valuable historical heritage. In view of this circumstances UNESCO at its 30th session, held in November 1999 in Paris, decided to widely celebrate 2700 years anniversary of "Avesta". Jubilee celebrations were held in the homeland of "Avesta" in Uzbekistan, more precisely, in Khorezm. Visiting the museum of "Avesta" you get enough information about the most ancient history, lifestyle, customs and rites are, spiritual culture, science and other fields related to the life of the peoples of Central Asia, and the people of the East as a whole.
Madrasah Muhammad Amin Inak
Madrasah built in 1785 by Muhammad Amin Inak who put the beginning of ancestry of Khans of Qunghrat. According to the legends in one of the rooms of the madrasah there is burial place of Mohammed Amin Inak himself or his younger son Qutlugh Murad Khan (Infant). In 1935 some monuments in Khiva came to ruins and according to the story of veteran who worked at that time on the restoration of the monuments two graves were found inside the madrasah. The corpses found in the tombs were well preserved except for of the shrouds they were wrapped into the animal skins. In the madrasah there are more than twenty hujras and the front elevation consist of a high portal without ornaments. From two sides behind the portal there are stairs laid out with square burnt bricks, overlooking the roof of the madrasah.
Opposite to this madrasah in 1799 there was built Fazylbiy madrasah facing by its front elevation to the madrasah Muhammad Amin Inak, amounting together with it a type of Qosh-madrasah (double madrasah) typical in the East. (Fazylby during the reign of Muhammad Amin Inak served as Amir al Umara - the commander-in-chief of the troops of Khiva Khanate, his annual salary equaled to 500 tilla - gold coins). The building of the madrasah was demolished in 1945 - 1955. Madrasah Muhammad Amin Inak was renovated in the late 1980s, its interior after overlapping the courtyard with adaptation under the Marriage House of townspeople of Khiva was colorfully decorated with ganch patterns. Interior view of the building is magnificent and unique.
