Debate and how does it differ from other forms of direct communication

You are the first speaker of the second half of the ongoing debate. You now have the opportunity to speculate: has there been a change in the subject of the debate (has an alternative LO case been introduced) - if this has indeed happened, then you need to decide whether you will continue with the Government line or switch to the interpretation of the resolution proposed by the Opposition. Be careful. It is also possible to accept a combination of both interpretations, but then you must be extremely careful not to get confused with your arguments by trying to follow both interpretations at the same time.

If the Opening Government has offered a debatable but very weak case that has been completely overturned by the Opening Opposition, you cannot simply stab the Opening Government in the back by betraying them. You can, however, somewhat "extend" the Government's case, which allows you to look at the game from a different perspective, still roughly following the Government's line. Again, as with the Opening Government, the definitions you propose should be debatable.

Your role is to develop your team's line. Like any other Government Speaker, you cannot spend all of your speech rebutting the Opposition. State and elaborate on YOUR team's line by showing how it relates to the Government's case. Once you have stated your position, use it to rebut the Opposition. Also remember that much of your partner's speech will involve summarizing everything said for the game by the Government and rebutting the Opposition. Your partner will have virtually no time to develop your team's line, so you have to do a lot of work on this pitch. You are practically alone against the third speaker of the Opposition, so your arguments must be fully exposed, otherwise your opponent will destroy them, and your partner won't be able to help you in any way afterwards. If your partner has to spend his entire speech to cover you, then your team will lose, you will bury your partner under the rubble of your failed speech.
