PROCEDURE OF THE LESSON:

To make up 10 sentencces (Conditionals (II))

  1. Pre - activity Warm up

It would be good to start this lesson with some questions on the first part of the story 'The Secret". The objective is to see

how well PP remember the content and to get them warmed up. The following questions are: 1 Who said that he wanted to speak to the Chief Inspector of Police?

2Who didn't understand why people were hiding things from him? 3Who smoked a pipe?

4What organisation was avoiding Henry Cooper?

Activity 1

Obiective: to enable PP to talk about the Earth and the Moon

In pairs PP talk about the Earth and the Moon. When they finish, you may want to ask several PP to tell the class their ideas.

  1. Main Part Activity 2a

Obiective: to practise reading for gist

PP read the second part of the story silently. Teacher encourages them to use the Wordlist.

Activity 2b

Objective: to practise reading for specific information PP read the story a second time and find information about Dr

Hastings, and again you can ask them either to read the sentences or say what they have found. The numbered lines can help.

Objectives: to present the meaning of the Second Conditional; to practise

talking about an imaginary situation The new grammar structure is presented in this activity without the explanation of its form. If you think the activity may be too challenging for your PP, you could start with drawing their attention to the Remember box and translating the sentence into their mother tongue. As soon as you are sure they understand that the structure means unreal situation, start doing the activity.
