Stubborn testimony
The Globus accommodated 1,500 spectators from all walks of life. The playwright and the actors were faced with the difficult task of attracting the attention of a diverse audience. Shakespeare’s poems met this demand in every way. Thanks to his repertoire, the names of many actors are known to the world. Various documents on legal and financial matters confirm that Shakespeare became much richer during his stay in London. He had the opportunity to buy real estate in Blackfriars, London, and a huge house in Stratford, New Place.
After the death of Elizabeth I on March 24, 1603, the English crown was given to James I. The theater troupe passed into his possession. Before leaving for Stratford, Shakespeare wrote the poems Anthony and Cleopatra, Coriolanus, and Tina of Athens. Then in 1610 – 1612 he created the works «Winter Tale» and «Flood». In 1604, his master's daughter married, and Shakespeare attended the wedding as a witness. Documents from 1612 show that he was a tenant of Christopher Mountjoy, a Huguenot (French Protestant) who made hats, and that there was a judicial investigation into the case. Shakespeare was a mediator (witness) in the seep case when Mountjoy student Stephen Bellot married his daughter. The playwright had to come to an agreement. The wedding took place, but eight years later Bellot sued his father-in-law. He had filed a lawsuit, claiming that only a certain portion of the sep had been given. Shakespeare, who was summoned to court, said he could not remember the details
In 1613 he bought the former monastery guardhouse at Belfries. In June of that year, Shakespeare's daughter, Susanna John Lane, slandered him, claiming that he had contracted word-of-mouth disease. Susanna and her husband went to court. Susanna, who did not attend the trial, was charged with defamation. In November 1614, Shakespeare spent several weeks at the home of his son-in-law Hall, in London.
Unusual and complicated
Shakespeare wrote his first plays in the early 1590s and his last in 1612. So far, his career has lasted just over two decades. Shakespeare, though, altered drastically throughout those two decades. His early comedies did not have the traditional theme of cunning and deceit. They make jokes for fun, jokes for jokes. The protagonists are all multifaceted, the psychological solutions are complex and diverse. The protagonists of Shakespeare's comedies have always been extraordinary, embodying the qualities of the Renaissance: freedom, a sharp mind, a desire for independence, and, of course, a love of life with sorrow. In fact, even in the comedic scenes of comedy, Shakespeare creates complex realistic characters («Comedy of Mistakes»). It is especially noteworthy that in such works, the masculine freedom, vigor, activity and charm are embodied in the image of women. The language of his plays is unprecedentedly rich: a study by philologists and literary critics found that Shakespeare's dictionary was 12,000-15,000 words. The speech of the heroes was enriched with various metaphors, irony, and allusions. In his plays, the playwright used many forms of 16th century lyric poetry – sonnets, canons (simple musical works with national color), epitaphs (wedding songs) and others.Shakespeare withdrew from literary endeavor in his later years and lived quietly in his family. The quick will of March 15, 1616, indicates that this was owing to a terrible illness.
