The object of the research is the matter of speech act theory and types in pragmalinguistics.
The subject of the research is the study of speech act theory and types on the bases of theoretical and analytical perspectives.
The materials of the research are theoretical data from thesis, dissertation, article and other papers taken from the internet as well as literary work “The Old Man and the Sea” (Ernest Hemingway) that served for analysis of the theme.
The methods of the research are as follows:

  1. Method of authentic materials method;

  2. Method of course book analysis;

  3. Method of data collection.

The theoretical value of the research is that the theoretical part of the research can serve as a good data base for further investigations in the sphere.
The practical importance of research is that the analysis of literary works in English for speech act types can be useful in the further analytical investigations in the sphere and may serve as illustrations during lecture and seminar courses in pragmalinguistics.
The structure of the research paper is as follows:
The research paper consists of Introduction, two main Chapters, Conclusion and References.
Introduction, in its own fashion, introduces the topicality, aim, tasks, object, subject, materials, methods, theoretical and practical value and the brief structure of Course Paper.
Chapter 1 is dedicated to the theoretical background of speech acts. Three separate paragraphs reveal data about Speech Act Theory, felicity conditions, basic facets of speech acts and the classification of speech act types in pragmalinguistics. Different viewpoints, assumptions and categorizations suggested by various linguistic researchers are described in this chapter.
Chapter 2 is devoted to the practical analysis of speech act types in the story “The Old Man and the Sea” by Ernest Hemingway. In the first paragraph of this chapter the story is investigated for direct and indirect speech acts. The second paragraph observes speech act types in the dialogues and conversations of the story according to Searlean classification and other categories proposed by other linguists.
Conclusion of the current research sums up and concludes all the data and analysis discussed throughout the whole paper.
References include all the theoretical and literary materials used in the process of data collection.
