1.5. Principles of book selection for extracurricular reading.
The purpose of extracurricular reading is to improve reading skills, to develop a conscious reader who is able to choose a book, who reads regularly, and who is able to evaluate a book correctly. Extracurricular activities have been organized in schools since 1959.
Extracurricular activities are held once a week in grades 1-2 and once every two weeks in grades 3-4. The literacy process takes 17-20 minutes of the last alphabet lesson of the week. The main task of these lessons is to arouse the student’s interest in reading fiction books, to teach him to keep a diary of the books he reads, to acquaint them with the life and work of famous writers of children’s literature.
The task of the methodology is to recommend a list of literature to be read outside the classroom, to develop samples of the annual curriculum and lesson structure.
The following guidelines should be followed when selecting a book for extracurricular reading:
1. Selection of works by Uzbek and foreign children’s writers.
2. In choosing a book, consider the importance of comprehensive education of students.
3. Pay attention to the diversity of the genre and theme of the work.
4. Take into account the age and level of the students.
5. Take into account students’ personal interests in independent reading.
6. Adherence to the seasonal principle.
The main form of extracurricular learning guidance is special STO lessons, which are free lessons. develops.
Requirements for STO classes:
start each lesson with an introductory conversation;
keep track of the books students read in each lesson;
recommend new works for each lesson;
Conversational analysis of the work read in each lesson;
to prepare exhibitions on the read works, to write reviews of the work, to collect information about the author of the work, to prepare albums, to keep a reading diary;
to hold a generalizing, concluding discussion on the works analyzed in each lesson.
Important Extracurricular Activities:
reading to cultivate independence in the selection of works, to give assignments for independent performance;
use of interesting exercises, teaching the best essays, reviews, information about the author, «Quick say», «Find puzzles», «Expressive reading», «Proverbs competition», «Fairy tale» winter ”,“ Conference of scholars ”, organization of counter-research, organization of questions and answers on specific topics, use of reading-type activities.
Create an annual schedule for extracurricular activities. In doing so, follow the steps of STO, developed by NN Svetlovskaya. Assistive forms of extracurricular learning guidance include:

1. Promote the book. A list of recommended works for extracurricular reading will be posted in the classroom or special area of ​​the school and will be updated from time to time. There will be exhibitions and special talks by the teacher.


2. Individual care and daily check-ups. Students will be interviewed about the books they have read, the books they have read will be taken into account, personal opinions will be identified, home libraries will be visited, and parents will be interviewed.
3. Extracurricular reading activities: literary tales, quizzes, meetings with writers, literary research are specially prepared for them.
4. Subscribe to the library. First graders can join the library with the teacher’s permission and recommendation.
5. Use students’ reading diaries to keep track of what they have read.
From the 2nd semester onwards, first graders write the author’s name, surname, and book title in a reading diary. In Grade 2, they write the place and year of publication. Writes reviews of books read in grades 3-4, writes his own comments, that is, reacts.6
