CHARACTER
A person in a story, play or poem.
CHARACTERIZATION
The way the author presents, characters in a story. It usually refers to the actions, feelings and thoughts of the characters.
CLIMAX
The most exciting part of a story.
CONFLICT
The struggle within a character or between central
characters that causes tension in the story.
COGITO
He is a philosopher in the Enlightenment period
CONTRAST
The comparison between two people/ things / places / events
to show the differences between them.
FALSHBACK
A technique used to recall events in the past.
FORESHADOWING
A technique used to provide a sign/warning/hint
of something that is about to happen.
IMAGERY
The use of vivid descriptions to create a word picture or
image. These words or phrases usually appeal to the five senses.

METAPHOR
A way of comparing two or more things without using
‘like’ or ‘as’, e.g. ;wild with joy’ (p.44)
MORAL VALUES
The lessons that we can learnt from the story or poem.
PERSONIFICATION
The technique of giving human characteristics to non-human
elements such as an object, idea or animal
PLOT
The sequence of events in a story and the way they are
linked together.
POINT OF VIEW
The angle from which the story is told, either first person or
third person.
PROTOGONIST
The main character in a story.
ROSICRUCIANS
A member of any of several secret organizations or orders of the 1600s and 1700s concerned with the study of religious mysticism and professing esoteric religious beliefs.
