cooling tower to chiller condenser was to cycle the cooling-tower fans
to maintain the condensing water back to the chiller at a fixed con-
dition, say, 80 to 85
⬚
F, based on a summer wet-bulb design temper-
ature of 70 to 80
⬚
F. The fixed condition was energy wasteful much
of the year since the tower could make cooler water at other than
peak load times, and the chiller could operate with less energy in-
put, given reduced condensing conditions. DDC technology now al-
lows a reset of the cooling water set point related to load, outside
air conditions, and chiller limitations.
