technologies implemented in the process of teaching a foreign language to university students
are still not enough due to the lack of methodological developments on their application in
higher education.
The ability to use a foreign language in professional activities
is a necessary condition for the competence of a specialist. In addition, proficiency
in a foreign language increases the status of a specialist, ensuring their
competitiveness by increasing the level of information and communication culture.
The practical application of ICTs in foreign language teaching depends on
the level of proficiency and creativity of the teacher. Here are some examples
of the use of ICT for teaching students of non-linguistic specialties of a pedagogical university.
Thus, the preparation of computer presentations arouses great interest among
students, increases motivation to learn a foreign language,
and develops creative abilities. The presence of a speller on the computer is not
a facilitating factor, but an auxiliary tool for teaching spelling correctness,
as it enhances the processes of memorizing the visual image of lexical units. For
this reason, this type of work is also used for teaching writing. As a rule,
photos are added to the presentation, which further enhances the impact effect.
This technique is largely based on visualization, which leads to
better assimilation of the material, its memorization and more effective preparation for
the subsequent presentation in the classroom. This type of work provides
significant assistance in preparing for the traditional student's monologue statement
on such topics as "Me and my family", "University", "Hometown", "
Great Britain", "USA", "Russia", "Education system in the UK and USA",
"The education system in Russia", "Teacher's profession", "My specialty". When
preparing presentations, students can use Internet resources.
At practical classes of the discipline "Foreign language" at the Volgograd
State Socio-Pedagogical University
, the project method (individual and group projects) is actively and successfully used- creating
short-term projects and formatting results using
the Power Point program (multimedia presentation) and their protection. For example, by topic:
"Why is Volgograd called the "crossroads of civilizations"?", "Preparing for
a trip", "At the hotel" (individual advertising tourist brochure),
"Which capital of the country of the language you are studying would you like to visit first?".
The best works and photos of students taken during the project defense
are offered to be posted on the website www.vspu.ru on the page of the Department of Foreign
Languages. Projects are defended and presentations are made in a foreign
language. As part of the individual project "My Profile", students
independently develop and draw up the necessary material (a short and
detailed biography, family tree (pedigree), business card,
detailed workday plan, etc.). The research is made out in
the form of a multimedia presentation "My Profile" in the Power Point application and
presented in the classroom. Mastering the "Future profession"sections
and "Getting a job" is also based on the project method, which consists
in preparing a presentation "Famous people of my profession", created
using Power Point technology, based on information about outstanding scientists and
specialists in the field of knowledge that the student is studying
(differentiation by faculty or specialty).
